I nodded. This was his way of telling me that I hadn’t made it, just as we’d always expected, that it was finally time for me to pack up and head back to Virginia, to say goodbye to ski racing.
I nodded. I had done my best. No regrets. I had finished. Not quite the way I had always hoped, but I finished nonetheless.
